May 31 to June 1, 2021, will mark 100 years since the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre, considered one of the worst displays of racial violence in American history. Join Hannibal B. Johnson and Jessica Lowe-Betts, members of the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre Centennial Commission, to learn more about Oklahoma’s history with racial justice, plans behind the centennial commemoration and how organizations and companies can honor the centennial.

During this session, you’ll learn:

About Our Speakers:

Hannibal B. Johnson is a graduate of Harvard Law School. He did his undergraduate work at The University of Arkansas, where he completed a double major in economics and sociology. Johnson is an attorney, author, and independent consultant specializing in diversity, equity and inclusion, leadership and nonprofit governance. Johnson has also served as an adjunct professor at The University of Tulsa College of Law (legal writing; legal ethics), Oklahoma State University (leadership and group dynamics; business law [MBA Program]), and the University of Oklahoma (ethics; cultural diversity; race and reason; The 1921 Tulsa Race Riot; nonprofit leadership and management).

Jessica Lowe-Betts is a Diversity and Inclusion Consultant for ONEOK, Inc. Her responsibilities include supporting the company’s Diversity and Inclusion strategy to positively impact ONEOK’s corporate culture and mission to be an employer for choice for all identities. Before joining ONEOK, she was Vice President of Marketing and Branding for Tulsa Regional Tourism, a division of the Tulsa Regional Chamber, where she also served as chair of the Diversity and Inclusion task force in 2010 and co-chair in 2018. She is a steering committee member for the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre Centennial Commission and chairs the marketing and public relations subcommittee. In 2015, she was recognized as one of Tulsa Business and Legal News’ 40 under 40 recipients and is a member of the Tulsa Regional Chamber’s Workforce Diversity Council, Mosaic. Jessica attended Langston University where she received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Broadcast Journalism.
