With May observed as Mental Health Awareness Month, this month’s program will focus on the topic of trauma awareness through a communicator’s lens. Whether it is acts of violence in our community, hate against marginalized groups, or the polarized political landscape, we will discuss the importance of communicators being aware of the impacts of trauma and working within a trauma informed framework, particularly in the aftermath of a critical incident.

Jessica Heavin MS, LPC, NCC, CEAP, director of Wellness Services at TCC, will walk us through this approach which is more widely adopted across sectors such as criminal justice and health care but can easily be adapted for public relations.
