Join Dr. Raymond Doswell, Executive Director of Greenwood Rising, and Jessica Lowe-Betts, Senior Vice President at Schnake Turnbo Frank and inaugural Chair of the Board of Directors for Greenwood Rising, for a conversation about communicating complex and difficult topics to diverse audiences.

Drawing from Greenwood Rising’s work educating the public about the full Black Wall Street story, including its economic power, cultural legacy, and the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre, Doswell and Lowe-Betts will discuss how the organization approaches messaging across varied audiences, including schools, corporations, public agencies, and community partners. The presentation will explore how to connect people to local stories and communicate hard truths without avoidance. Attendees will gain insight into how Greenwood Rising navigates audience needs while remaining grounded in history.

We’ll be gathering at the OSU-Tulsa B.S. Roberts Room at 700 N. Greenwood Ave. at North Hall 151 on Thursday, Feb. 26, from 11:30 a.m.–1 p.m. Parking is available in any lot. A campus and parking map can be found here.

Speaker Bios

Raymond Doswell, Ed.D.

Dr. Raymond Doswell is a seasoned public historian, educator, and museum executive with close to 30 years of experience. He has worked collaboratively with regional and national entities such as museums, filmmakers, governmental organizations, public museums, manufacturers, colleges and schools, advising and directing projects on history and culture. This work includes managing and advising the development of permanent and traveling history exhibitions. He has also traveled extensively as a public speaker on topics of African American history. Doswell served as Vice-President of Curatorial services at the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum, where he managed exhibitions, archives, and educational programs, from 1995-2022. He was appointed Executive Director of the Greenwood Rising Black Wall Street History Center in January 2023.

Jessica Lowe-Betts

Jessica Lowe-Betts is a Senior Vice President at Schnake Turnbo Frank’s Tulsa office.

Jessica comes to Schnake after nearly 20 years of experience in broadcast journalism, government affairs, communications, marketing, leadership coaching and diversity, equity and inclusion consulting. She is an experienced culture and engagement practitioner, communications professional, event planner, and community leader. Before her time at Schnake, she was a Senior Diversity & Inclusion Consultant for ONEOK where she developed and expanded employee resource groups and provided coaching/counsel for employees across the organization.

Prior to ONEOK, Jessica spent more than 10 years at the Tulsa Regional Chamber in various events and communications positions, culminating as Vice President of Marketing and Branding for Tulsa Regional Tourism where she managed strategic marketing, social media, media relations and brand development.Jessica served as the inaugural Chair of the Board of Directors for Greenwood Rising, following several years as the Marketing Committee Chair for the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre Centennial Commission. She has co-chaired the Association for Women in Communications Newsmakers Event, is a graduate of the 2024 cohort of the African American Leadership Academy and is a PRSA-Tulsa board member.
