Getting Coverage in Unfamiliar Markets 

When you need coverage outside of Tulsa or Oklahoma, what’s the best way to get it? If you don’t know a single journalist in Jacksonville, how can you get your pitch out of the junk mailbox and into the right hands? We will dive into the confusing waters of getting out-of-market coverage at our January meeting. Come to Albert G’s and hear from our panel of journalists and industry executives to learn how to make your next pitch stand out to someone who has never heard of you or your company.

Panelists scheduled to attend:

Laura Neal, anchor, Good Morning Oklahoma and Good Day Tulsa, KTUL. Laura will discuss the dos and don’ts when it comes to pitching to an out-of-market TV reporter/anchor. She will explain the pitches that best resonate with her and the ways to forge relationships with someone even when you can’t meet face-to-face.

Jerry Wofford, music/features writer, Tulsa World. Jerry will discuss projects he’s done outside of the Tulsa market and how those came together. He will discuss what makes a good feature pitch and how to make that initial “cold call."

Kelly Johnson, senior account executive, Schnake Turnbo Frank. Kelly will discuss paid tools and free methods to find the right reporters, how and why to look at their social profiles and articles to “get to know them,” and how to approach them for a successful pitch.

Our meeting will be held at Albert G's downtown; the menu will include vegetarian options.
